What a dream.

From the moment I arrived at Encantada Ocean Cottages, it felt like a fairytale.

I was warmly greeted by Shirley at the front desk, with a fresh glass of pineapple juice and a bohemian chic throw, for the beach or pool, to utilize during my stay.

Walking down the stoney pathway to my ocean-view cottage I was surrounded by lush, tropical greenery. I could already feel myself relaxing! Where had I been teleported to? I was glad that I had decided to take a little self-care retreat.

The cottage was spacious and airy with beautiful linens, plush seating areas and a king sized bed. Decorated in eclectic whimsical decor, I could truly get a sense for the homey touches that had gone into making this place so special. The double doors looked out onto a spacious patio overlooking the ocean. As the ocean breeze came pouring into the room, I just had to sit back and take it all in. Wow! What a magical place.

Brytta, their resident yoga teacher and administrative go-to girl, had even left me a personalized card and flower to welcome me to my room. She is a doll.

After a warm shower and cup of tea in my little kitchenette, I was off to candle lit, sunset yoga. As I inhaled and exhaled all that had gone on that day, I took in the breathtaking colours painted across the sky as the waves rolled in at low tide on Esterillos Beach.

Owners, Tiffany and Nome Lakin, have put their heart and soul into making Encantada unique. It shows in their rapport with staff and their personalized touches that they have included in each room. Macrame wall hangings, softs bed linens made by friends back home in the USA, unique lamps and decorations in each room. They made sure to personally thank me for coming and welcome me to their Costa Rican paradise of a boutique hotel.

A walk on the beach under the crescent moon filled my heart as I took in all of the positive energy. Feeling recharged and reset, I headed to Cinco, their onsite restaurant where their locally sourced menu includes a fusion of local and American food options such as ; fresh ceviche, Costa Rican chifrijo, burger with caramelized onions and artisanal bread, casado, and more. If there were any allergies or dietary needs, the kitchen was sure to ask and accommodate!

To top off the night, I snuggled in bed with a slice of homemade blackberry cheese cake! I don’t know if it was the day, the cheesecake, or the mountain of feather pillows…but I slept like a baby! Day two at Encantada is sure to bring good things.

If you haven’t taken yourself on a retreat before, now is the time! Whether it’s a solo retreat, romantic getaway, baby shower weekend, bachelorette party, or family vacation, Encantada is a truly peaceful and magical place that makes you feel right at home.
